Significant Projects

Australian Bay Lobster Producers

Client: Australian Bay Lobster Producers Ltd

Australian Bay Lobster Producers Ltd (ABLP) proposes to develop and operate an aquaculture facility at Cudgen, NSW. MBR Environmental has been assisting them with the development of a Construction Environmental Management Plan, Licensing applications and general environmental management.

Currently, ABLP is applying for an amendment to their pipeline route which is subject to an Environmental Assessment and public review beginning 10 September 2008.

Lake Lomandra Stormwater Assessment and Modelling

Client: Gold Coast City Coucil

Lake Lomandra is a constructed lake built for stormwater treatment control as part of 'The Dales' housing development in Robina, Queensland. An assessment of lake water quality, sediment quality, the stormwater system, and contributing catchmentwas made. These were combined into a catchment and in lake water quality model utilising the Rainfall Runoff Library (for catchment calibration) and MUSIC (for assessing stormwater treatment devices) (CRC for Catchment Hydrology modelling toolkit). Recommendations were made as to management measures for the lake and catchment, including types, locations and life cycle costs of treatment measures including GPTs, oil and sediment separators and bioretention / wetland systems.

Modelling of Irrigation of Cogeneration Plant Process Water on Sugar Cane

Client: Rocky Point Green Power Project

In order to understand the relationship between required annual release volumes to the environment from the cooling tower of Rocky Point Green Power's cogeneration plant under a variety of irrigation scenarios, a complex water balance model was developed. This allowed analysis of irrigation and pond system configuration, available land type and size and differing agricultural management systems and the effect on annual and interannual (monthly) releases over time. Utilising a custom object oriented model allowed any configuration to be modelled rather than being trapped into manipulating present software. This was delivered to Queensland EPA as part of development planning for the project.

Meridien Marinas Horizon Shores: Ongoing Environmental Management Services and Advice

Client: Meridien Marinas

We have been offering advice and performing consultancy services for the marina, currently undergoing major development to make it the largest marina in the southern hemisphere. Past services include:

  • Annual License Compliance Audit and 5-yearly energy use audit;
  • Risk Assessment of Drinking Water Supply - 75% rainwater and the remainder town water trucked to the site;
  • Advice on the choice of water sampling equipment for drinking water supply management
  • Water Efficiency Audit and management plan

National Pollutant Inventory Reporting - Rocky Point Green Power Cogeneration Plant

Client: Rocky Point Green Power Project

Industries tripping pollutant generation or fuel burning thresholds are required annually to report their emissions of certain substances to the EPA. Analysis of monitoring results and modelling of site processes is undertaken to estimate the emissions of these substances and prepare recommendations for better estimate and/or reduce future emissions, mostly concerned with stack emissions from this biomass energy station.

Stormwater Quality Management Plan - Industrial Warehouse Development, Casua Drive Varsity Lakes

Client: by Gold Coast Industrial Builders Pty Ltd

As part of a development application for the construction and operation of an industrial warehouse development involving 10 units, a stormwater management plan was required for Gold Coast City Council. This involved the sizing, layout, design and modelling of the water sensitive urban design components of the development.
